Versarien subsidiary Gnanomat granted patent protection in Italy

Monday, 17th December 2018
Advanced materials group Versarien said subsidiary Gnanomat had been awarded a patent by the Spanish patent office covering a method of obtaining nanomaterials composed of carbonaceous material and metallic oxides.

Versarien acquired 62% of Gnanomat in September 2018.

It said it believed that the nanomaterials obtained could provide good energy storage properties in a reproducible way.

The patent covered a key element of a production process, allowing GNA to combine materials such as Versarien's graphene with metallic oxides in a liquid medium at moderate pressures and temperatures.

The compounds would be produced in industrial quantities.

'We have been very pleased with the acquisition of GNA and the progress they have been making in recent months,' chief executive Neill Ricketts said.

'The award of this patent is a key milestone as we continue to develop technology that we believe will enable the development of commercially viable graphene enhanced batteries and other energy storage devices.'
