Goals Soccer Centres rejects Sports Direct call to allow extra probe of its books

Wednesday, 19th June 2019
Small football pitch operator Goals Soccer Centres said it did not need to appoint further advisers at this time, while confirming that it received a letter from substantial shareholder Sports Direct International.

Sky News reported on Wednesday that Sports Direct had asked Goals to allow it to hire its own corporate investigator to examine accounting glitches at the company.

Goals said that it had already engaged forensic accountants to analyse historical accounting errors and policies.

The company also said that it had appointed other independent advisors to assist it in examining its historic treatment of value-added tax, as well as its ongoing discussions with UK tax authorities

Goals is also in progress of engaging Deloitte to work alongside its current advisors and lenders 'in assessing its future corporate options'.

'The board believes that it does not need to appoint further advisors at this time,' Goals said.

'The company is committed to making announcements for all shareholders in due course as the results of its investigation become known.'
